As a content creator or small business owner, you probably spend hours (too many than you’d like) every week just taking photos or videos and preparing content for your page. One of the biggest time-savers can be learning how to repurpose content effectively and maximize its online life. This article will share some secrets of repurposing content that will save you time and effort by teaching you how to use previous content for future marketing!

Evergreen content
Evergreen content is what we call previously curated content, such as photos, videos, or blog posts that will be relevant for years to come. For example, suppose your business has a storefront. In that case, a photo of your store will always be relevant, so even if a year has passed since you took the picture, and the store still looks the same as the photo, you can keep using it in other ways–easy tip, have a storefront photo for every season!

Throwback Thursday or Flashback Friday
Are you low on content? Do you have old photos you’re not sure how to reuse? Share the content on your page and note it as a “throwback.” The nostalgia and history of an old but relevant photo will spark your viewers’ interest.

Repurpose old content into a TikTok or Reel video!
With TikTok and Instagram Reels, curating new content is easier than ever! If you have a few short videos or lots of photos available for use, try putting them all together into a TikTok or Reel, add a trending sound and hit publish! This is a fun and attractive way to create some new content by using the old!

(Left) Not sure how to find a trending sound on Instagram? Look for the arrow next to the number of reels using the sound!

Break your content down into parts for other platforms
All content can be broken up into parts that can feed the original and expand its value across numerous platforms. For example, a blog post could be broken down into bite-size pieces of information for social media posts; the author could answer questions about it on a live or do in-depth coverage on a YouTube video, story slide frames could use blog highlights and direct viewers to the original post.

Stop cross-posting on your social media
One thing we’re big on at MXH is not cross-posting the same content on social media platforms. There are exceptions to this, like if the post is time-sensitive. But, beyond the fact that each platform has its nuances, and content should be tailored to that, viewers are bored and disinterested when they see the same photo as they switch between scrolling on Facebook and Instagram.

To keep things fresh and interest high, we like to use the same photo, video, content, etc., at least a few days, or weeks, apart on respective platforms. This does a few things for you. First, it increases the frequency of your message (for businesses, people don’t always buy the first time they see something!) without being tedious or redundant. Second, it doubles the life of your content! And third, it allows you to write and format the content to the platform’s nuances–there’s nothing like seeing a URL in an Instagram post that you can’t click on!
